  25.             Los Nettos is a regional network in the Los Angeles area.
  26.  
  27.             Important features of Los Nettos are that it is  (1)  an  IP
  28.             network,  and (2) it is ``high speed.''  All connections and
  29.             links are at least T1 (1.5 Mbps) capacity.  A  goal  of  Los
  30.             Nettos is to provide an environment to develop very interac-
  31.             tive network applications.
  32.  
  33.             Los Nettos is operated by the member organizations,  not  by
  34.             DARPA,  or  NASA,  NSF, or DOE, etc.  It may be used for any
  35.             educational or research purpose.

  37.             The  member  organizations  are  universities  and  research
  38.             laboratories.   The  Information Sciences Institute (ISI) of
  39.             the University of Southern  California  (USC)  acts  as  the
  40.             agent for Los Nettos.
  41.  
  42.             Seven organizations are already participating in  this  net-
  43.             work (ISI, USC, JPL, CalTech, UCLA, TIS and Rand).  A number
  44.             of other research centers have expressed strong interest  in
  45.             participating.

  47.             Los Nettos will interoperate with CERFnet and other networks
  48.             to provide access to special resources (for example, the San
  49.             Diego Supercomputer Center), or to other  regional  networks

  76.             Any of the members  can  exchange  traffic  with  any  other
  77.             member  for  any  purpose.   Any  member  may use any of the
  78.             long-haul networks Los Nettos has  connections  to,  subject
  79.             only  to the restrictions of the owner of the long-haul net-
  80.             work.
